close-up photos

I used my Altenew alcohol markers to color the image. Just 2 shades for red (velvet and crismon) and 2 shades for green (bamboo and forest glades). Then I used my prismacolor pencils to deepen up the shadows and a white pastel pencil to add some highlights.

Make sure to check out the video above for a step by step tutorial on coloring everything.

  1. I so enjoy watching you color for the tips you give along the way. This is a beautiful stamp set and the card you made with it is fabulous. Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. What a beautiful card!! Loved watching you color and create the card! Great addition using color pencils, and love how you covered the smudge using jewels 🙂 The black nuvo drops also add a great interest to the final finish! <3

  3. I so enjoy watching you create and listening to your explanations. I appreciate your talents so much. Thank you for sharing! A beautiful job with a beautiful stamp.

  4. Vicky, you are so talented. I love watching your creative process from your choice of colors and the position of the flowers. Beautiful!

  5. I heard about this new idea by Altenew in a video from Creativation. It caught my attention because I love to color floral images but don’t care for color layering stamp sets. I appreciate you highlighting the first set of the year! I noticed that the masking paper didn’t lift any of the pastel highlight! Good idea to keep in mind (the pastel for a highlight) and to use gems to cover up mistakes! I have such a difficult time blending reds (especially with pencils) and you make it look so easy!! Hoping you had safe travels to and from the U.S. and that you had a fantastic time here in Arizona at Creativation. Thank you for the video.

  6. Here you are way down at the bottom of the blog hop list, and yet your video is packed with new ideas. I smiled at the addition of gems to cover boo-boos. I am slowly building my collection of gems in varied colors because I make mistakes in all the colors of the rainbow!

  7. This is a beautiful card and I always look forward to your videos! I’m not into the alcohol markers but love to see what you create. There are tips and techniques that can be used with other mediums too and I think this Paint-A-Flower series will be a big hit for all those who love to color!

  8. I like the simple two color blending with the addition of colored pencil for added depth. I like the center drops for more detail and the gems.

  9. Like always, you do such a beautiful job on your cards. I do love the new stamp set. The sentiments are some that can be used allot.

  10. Beautiful card! Thanks for the tip about the pastel pencil. I have some that I don’t use but will give your technique a try. Thanks for sharing.

  11. Love that you achieved that beautiful coloring of the poppy with only two colors for the poppy and two colors for the leaves!

  12. I can create this after watching your video and the minimal colors that were used. Can’t wait to get home to practice.

  13. I love the poppy stamp set. This is a lovely stamp to color. Your coloring is beautiful and so is your card. You so inspire me. Thank you.

  14. I love the black with the red! Altenew flower stamps are awesome! Great card Vicky❤️❤️❤️

  15. Beautiful card! I love it when mistakes are made and you tell how you fix the mistake instead of giving up on a beautiful project. Those are the gems of knowledge we all need. (pun intended)

  16. It’s so encouraging to see you produce such a lovely card with simple coloring techniques that we pretty much can all do. I appreciate the inspiration.

  17. I love watching you color . I use colored pencils and your coloring with markers has let me use the same techniques in my colored pencil class. Red poppies are one of my favorite flowers and you seemed to bring them to life. Thanks for the great videos!

  18. Beautiful rich red poppies, love to watch you color, the pencil coloring for details is brilliant! Thanks for another awesome video.

  19. What a beautiful poppy! Love to watch you color with Altenew
Artist Markers. The velvet and crimson are two of the prettiest Altenew reds. The colored pencil shadows add such a lovely touch to your beautiful flowers.

  20. I totally agree, Altenew has the most beautiful flower stamps, I think I need to subscribe! You make it all look so easy.

  21. I often feel challenged to make flowers look realistic and love your suggestion of using both alcohol markers and colored pencils to get those little extra highlights and contrasts. Thanks for a great video!

  22. Absolutely gorgeous card, and I love how you stamped it twice to make it look like two different stamps because of the change in orientation. I love all the little details you have added, and I love the card as a whole. Just gorgeous.

  23. Gorgeous! Beautiful coloring and composition. I love the soft blue background, it really makes the poppies pop!

  24. Absolutely gorgeous card Vicky. Thank you for using traditional colours and for your great tip using the pastel highlight. Love this stamp set.

  25. So lovely! And I love how you incorporated your tiny “goof” into your design. Those type of things are so helpful. Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent with us.

  26. Beautiful card! Thanks for demonstrating how gorgeous coloring can be without using as many colors of alcohol inks.

  27. Vicky, such a wonderful use of the gorgeous Altenew poppy stamp. And thanks for leaving in your “goof”. I’m always getting just a drop of something left from my hands. Some of these mistakes require creativity and lead to improvements too.

  28. Hi Vicky – my current obsession is the gorgeous poppy and I just LOVED your very beautiful card. Thanks for showing all your different colouring techniques , markers, pencils etc. all on the same project. Love the red poppy too. My favourite colour for them. TFS.

  29. Beautiful, Vicky! Altenew’s flowers are always lovely and nuvo drops really add depth, too. I’d love to see you bring back your flower journal. I don’t remember if you don’t already have a P flower – this one could be it!

  30. Such a lovely card Vicky! Your red poppy flowers are just gorgeous with the blue blended sky (loved that new ink color for this). I enjoyed your video very much and how you showed us to cover up a tiny boo boo.

  31. Beautiful work as always, Vicky! I really enjoyed and learned from watching your video process. I especially like how you shadowed this flower with the Prismas. Sad that I could not subscribe to this latest flower, and hope Altenew will make more!

  32. What a Beautiful card! Thanks for the tip on covering up smudges. Something I have to do more times than I care to admit!

  33. Your puppies that you stamp on this card are amazing. I love your choice of the background color. I really think it makes the poppy stand out even more. Thank you for my smile.
