Hi! Today I have a fun card using patterned paper and other goodies from the March card kit by SimonSaysStamp. If you want to win this card kit read along!

SSS March card kit

video tutorial

You can enjoy the video below or at my YouTube channel

close-up photos

I created my card using a couple of the patterned papers. In the video I go through the design principles and how you can follow the same idea to make similar cards with any paper pad that you have at home!

To get a vintage look I inked up the edges with vintage photo and created a few slits.

Cut out images from the patterned paper and tack them under the slits to create interest!

I also used my new deckle paper trimmer to get those lovely edges!

The sentiment was a combination of the two dies included in the kit and I also added a few gems for that extra something!

  109. I love watching all of your videos. It blows me away that you continue to come up with so many ideas for beautiful cards, even after making thousands of them!

  110. Absolutely beautiful! I love using patterned paper to make cards. I’ll grab a stack, and make as many cards as I can from one book, then make a box to put them all in, and give them as an all occasion card set to family members. I did this recently for my sister. She needed a ton of Thank You cards for all the community and church members that helped after a house fire. So, I got I think 60 or so cards from one paper pack, and had paper left over to make more.

  111. Love how soft and pretty this card is! I remember doing that same tearing technique several years ago but I had forgotten it through all the many new designs that we learn and discover. Thank you for the reminder! I’ve always loved this look. So with all the birthdays this month you have given me a “new” old design idea for the many cards I get to make! Thank you!

  112. Gorgeous card Vicky! I love the slits and accents you tucked into them. I love patterned papers but seem to have gotten away from using them lately. I need to remember to pull them out more often.

    1. Can’t remember but I usually eyeball it. Just cut them 3″ 1/4 x 5″ 1/2 and from there trim the edges to make them smaller that the actual card.

  136. Vicki — I love those little flowers slipped behind the torn openings in your patterned paper. (Note to self: USE that great idea!) Thanks for encouraging me to use my patterned paper instead of just collecting (vs hoarding, I NEVER hoard ;-)!!!) it.
So appreciate your creativity. You INSPIRE.
