art journal Rome

Hi! Hope you are all great! Today I have a new art journal page! It’s a page for my Italian friends and for all of you who have been or dream to visit Rome!

The inspiration came from the Small Die of the month club kit, by Spellbinders. This month it’s called “enjoy the ride”. The minute I see a vespa I think of Italy… so it was really easy from there to put things together. A vespa as my focal point, the Italian flag and a city map at the background and of course sign posts all pointing to Rome… “all roads lead to Rome” like the famous saying!

The kit comes with 20 dies that you can use to put together a vespa along with a balloon die and letters that fit inside the balloon to spell “ciao” and “enjoy”. You also get dies that cut out the words “the ride” so you put together the sentiment “enjoy the ride”.

The vespa is a lovely focal point for any project and I chose to go with red and silver accents. For the background I created the Italian flag using distress oxide inks. Check the video above for a step by step tutorial on how I created everything and scroll down for a list of supplies.

  1. You blow me away every single time, Vicky, with your gift of art. I love this project. You’re giving me the desire to try my hand at art journaling. I love how this page turned out. You are the best! ; )

  2. Another great art journal page!!! I have heard the expression “all roads lead to Rome” and think it goes SO well with the inspiration you had for the page. I’m working on a mixed media canvas project and am sort of stuck. Something isn’t working with it and after watching your video I think I know what I can do to help out the project!!!! I learn so much from watching your videos. Thank you, Vicky.

  3. Such a neat project! Can you tell me where to order the wax pencils you use for small dies and gems? I didn’t see them in your linked items. Thank you!
    Blessings!
    Joy

  4. Oh Vicky, your blog post today is uncanny. I flew to Rome from Australia yesterday and can’t wait to explore the city. Your designs always inspire me. Glenda

  5. Vicky – what a great page. You always make it look so simple.
I also would like to know the info about the wax pencil.

  6. Awesome journal page! It takes me back to our trip to Italy back in 2008 when we spent 5 days in Rome on our 19 day trip. It totally makes me think of the view from the tour bus at traffic lights when the vespas and motorcycles zoomed between cars & buses at the red lights to get at the head of the line when the light turned green…. that was the most amazing thing to me!

  7. I always love your Art Jounale pages. This again is a great one, I love the Vespa, that’s realy Italy.I am unfortunately not a Rome fan, when I was in Rome, everything went wrong, from people who stepped on my toes to a very nasty stomach flu. And all that in less than three days! The family joke is that Rome doesn’t like me and I doesn’t like Rome.
Thank you so much for sharing your awesome page and great video tutorial.
