A fun art journal layout today using many different mixed media techniques and mediums. Today I am introducing you to another type of art journal. A disc bounded one!

Working on a disc bounded art journal gives you the freedom to remove the page, work on it and then put everything back together when you finish. This will allow you to use lots of sprays and water without the fear of ruining the rest of your book. It will also allow you to work more freely, removing the fear of what will happen if you don’t like the final result on a book page… in this case, just don’t put the page back! Also the size I am working on is small, 6×6 is perfect for every art journal beginner out there! Just go for it, it’s so much fun!

For my background I did some gel printing. This is a technique that you can’t do when you work on a classic art journal book… well there are workarounds but it’s not the same as taking the page directly on top of your gel plate.

I did some stamping with my Art Foamies poppy and leaves.

For coloring my page I combined fluid acrylics with indian ink markers. And check out the video on how I used my dip pen holder to do my sketch lines and doodling. A dip pen holder is great for art journaling, since it will never let you down. You can go over acrylics, pastes… you name it and it will always write …. just clean the nib at the end and you are good to go. Plus you can switch from color to color easily and it dries permanent.

  2. I love watching you create and your art journals are beautiful! I really need to give mine a try – did one page and didn’t like it and that was the end of it!!! Your give me inspiration to do it again so thank you so much!

  3. I love this page! Thank you for sharing a different kind of art journal book, too. I have not heard of Joggles.com and I am really enjoying the variety of products they have to offer. Thanks for link to a new online store =)

  4. Oh … my … gosh! SO many tips and ideas and helpful bits of information in this video!!! I really like the idea of the 6×6 art journal. I’m a very beginner and sometimes find having a lot of space to work with very intimidating. It’s one reason why I gave up quickly on scrapbooking and turned to card making. But a 6×6 journal could really work for me!!!! And the idea of pulling the page out to play on it … brilliant! I have been watching videos on gelli plates and a friend of mine has fun with her’s so of course I’ve been wanting to give it a try. After watching your video … it seems so much easier. Wow, Vicky, I can definitely not thank you enough for this video; I very much appreciate it!! I think my next shopping excursion will be on joggles.com (love her videos too!). Thank you, thank you!!!

  5. Vicky, you’ve certainly given us a lot to think about! I am reading to dive into art journaling (I certainly have enough medium supplies) and this format seems to be perfect for the beginner. Your tutorials are excellent and I hope you continue with them! Thank you for sharing your talents with us. You are a treasure!

  6. Hello Vicky,
I do really love your work and enjoy watching your videos. Sometimes I think “what is she doing now???”, but when everything is ready …. WOW!

  7. Hi Vicky, thank you for your gorgeous page. I enjoy watching you so much. I love the Joggles Srt journal, it’s a handy size and I love that you can pull of the pages and put them back when you are ready. This one is one for my wish list.

  8. Oh my goodness, I love your creativity! This is the 2nd one I’ve watched today & even my hubby is impressed. I subscribed to your youtube channel today & now here on your blog. I will enjoy following you & now can see giving my art to friends & family. Thank u!

  9. I love that! I have the disks and hole punch – I think I’ll punch some watercolor paper and try out some of your techniques.

  10. Love this page Vicki and I have ordered a Joggles journal as it looks such fun! However, I have tried to use my big brush pens on my Strathmore watercolour paper and find that they do not blend and smudge with my finger as you show. Can you please give me any advice? Thank you!!!

    1. they smudge with your fingers only when you use them over a non-porous surface. It works over acrylic paint or if you cover your cut outs with matte medium.
