After popular demand today I am back with a product review. I am going to review the Tonic Studios – Tim Holtz – 8.5 Inch Comfort Guillotine Trimmer( SBC | SSS | ELH | CST ). It’s a paper trimmer that I got a couple of weeks ago and I love using it for it’s compact size and the clean cuts it gives me.
This is not a paper trimmer for everyone and it’s definitely not a 1 for all paper cutter. It will not replace your 12″ paper trimmer. But it’s a great tool to have as a go-to handy tool on your desk, it gives you clean cuts, it’s very light weight and it is a trimmer made with the cardmaker in mind.
The main cutting area is 6″ x 8″ 3/4 and it has measurements in both inches and cm. There are also measurements with a 1/4 inch grid engraved all over the surface. And it also has markings on the most popular paper sizes for cards and photos.

Great video! Can you creat a top fold card if your score and fold before you cut the paper?

That is a great idea to score and fold and then cut to get a top folded card Gunilla! I just tried it my smaller Fiskers and it worked. I am hoping to purchase this Tim Hotz trimmer real soon. Thanks for the review Vicky.
I’m starting to really enjoy guillotine trimmers. My sister happened on a Fiskars Bypass Guillotine Paper Trimmer – 12 Inches at Ross and bought me one. Before that I was using a Fiskars surecut paper trimmer and another trimmer with a rotary blade. I think I like the guillotine better. 🙂

Hi Vicky, thanks for the review. I still think it’s a missed opportunity that the quilotine can’t cut 12″ papers. Certainly because the handle is much shorter dan the normal quilotin cutters.
I have a Fiskars trimmer and indead I use always a piece of old printing paper under my cardstock.
You say you use heavy cardstock, do you know how heavy it is for me, whe measure in gsm?

Great review Vicky.I have the Cutterpillar crop trimmer.Ive had it 2yrs and love it.Ive never had an issue with it,and it still cuts like butter.

Thanks for the review. I recently purchased a Fiskars paper trimmer, and I really like it. It’s 6″ wide x 12″ long, so I can cut 12″ sheets to A2 size or smaller. My previous cutter was only 4″ wide, and it was tiresome always having to extend the arm which was only at the upper end. I like seeing the measurement at the lower end. The other reason I prefer the Fiskars is that it shows measurements in 1/8″. That’s really helpful because I like to mat some layers of my patterned paper with a very thin solid color. Having only 1/4″ measurements and not being able to cut 12 x 12 paper sadly are deal breakers for me, but I wouldn’t have known that but for your review!

Great video, Vicky! I have a compact Fiskars guillotine trimmer that I use regularly, but I like the look of this Tonic cutter because it has a wider deck than the one I have. I do tend to cheat a bit because I remove the plastic guard on my trimmer so that I am able to cut top folding cards and 12″ x 12″ pattern papers by doing a partial cut and then sliding the paper up to finish the cut. I also have the sliding Fiskars trimmer that you demonstrated and have found that using the newer titanium blades give me a cleaner cut and they seem to last much longer than the regular replacement blades. Since I teach card making classes of 12 to 15 people every week, I cut a LOT of paper and find the smaller guillotine trimmer is my favourite because of the clean cuts I am able to get with it. Great review! I already own this trimmer and I am very happy with it. I love that it has the indentions on the base all the way down. I have a guillotine trimmer that is for 12″ paper, but the indentions only appear on the 1/2″ so if I cut an A2 card the 4 1/4″ side always has to be trimmed off at the bottom. With this trimmer I always get a perfect cut. As for sliver of cardstock (1/8″) I have a small Cutterpede trimmer that I love for that. This is why we need larger craft rooms so we can have all these toys (I mean) tools! Just wish my hubby understood that, haha!
