distress oxide skyline

Happy Friday! Today I am back with some more distress oxide fun using the amazing Skyline dies by Tim Holtz for Sizzix!

A striking card for sure!

To create my skyline I used the Sizzix dies to cut out two pieces. One in black cardstock and another in gold. Stick one on top of the other slightly offset for the amazing highlight effect! Easy technique but so effective.

For my background I used distress oxide inks and I demonstrate in the video how I created that wonderful sky. For my sentiment I used another Sizzix die set, which is full of sentiment words that you can combine to make your own sayings! Awesome right?! I backed it up with gold paper and my card was done! And I love it!

I usually straggle with masculine cards but this one is definitely a great card to give to any man in your life. And the design is so versatile that you can just change the sentiment into any other. such as “celebrate”, or just “hello”. Or you can make a similar one in pale blue background for daylight and bright building colors!

  1. The card is so striking, who would notice the words are close together? It’s really a little work of art, Vicky.

  2. A fantastic card…so elegant, yet very masculine…yet you could certainly send the card to any sex.
Love the gold paper behind the buildings.
Your are such an inspiration! PS.. the last three post or so…the links for products are not working….of course, I can go to the links myself, but hate to see you not get the credit.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. They work fine for me and I didn’t have any other complains. Can you please let me know what browser and which version you are using? It would be a great help! thank you!

  3. One of my sons works in NYC and would absolutely love this beautiful card!!! Thanks so much for your wonderful work and video!

  4. This is a beautiful card. I think I would not have noticed the lettering mistake if you hadn’t pointed it out, but I’m glad you did. It was a very good “teachable moment”! Thank you for all your hard work, and generous sharing of your talent.

  5. I agree … stunning!! Thanks for posting about the tunnel book challenge. I’m considering it. Will wait to hear from Joggles … I don’t participate in social media so unless there’s another way to submit an entry (other than posting on face book) the decision may be made for me!! I do have an idea though that I’m working through!!!! Thanks for your encouragement!

  6. I’m surprised your brain doesn’t blow up. Your cards are so beautiful and imaginative. I love what you do for SSS. I love what you do for MFT. Your videos are awesome. And yours words? They’re just fine. This is a gorgeous card.

  7. Vicky, this card is stunning. Love it! But I have a question–the letters stencils on the sky background looks great, but I would never have thought of putting letters in the sky. How did you think of this? I do not have this stencil. What other images might look good?
