I get so many emails and comments asking for an art journal Halloween layout! So although we do not celebrate Halloween in Greece I just had to make one after popular demand.

I had so much fun creating this scene! I created everything out of colorful paper and I did a lot of collage.

I did embellish the boots with some faux stitching and gems that I colored with alcohol marker.

For my background I used pan pastels. They are so soft and easy to blend that you can create awesome backgrounds in seconds.

I did some stamping with versamark ink on the background for the tone on tone look and you can see the technique in the video.

All shading is done with my big brush markers but I do demonstrate in the video alternative ways to add shading, based on what you have or what you can find easily.

  9. When I saw this layout I actually gasped! It is so adorable. I never miss a layout or card you make. You are inspiring and I love getting ideas from you. Thank so much for taking the time to share.

  10. I love your journal layouts. I’d love to start my own but don’t know what to do with them once they’re done.
What do you do with your journals?
    Thank you for sharing them.

    1. I don’t feel I have to do something with them, art journaling is just a way to express my creativity. They give me joy while making them. And it is something for me, not for display, so I can be as free as I want. I do take them with me on my travels to show them to my workshop students as a portfolio and I do hand them to friends to look through them when they visit. When they are in my craft room they sit on the shelf open on a different layout each week and decorate my room.

  11. Hello Vicky, I always enjoy your process art journal pages. Your art relating to autumn is a favorite of mine as fall is my favorite season of the year. Especially love the sentiment as it is a take on Nancy Sinatra’s song, “These Boots Are Made For Walking”. So fun!!

  12. Yippee! An art journal from Vicky! I love this so much! Wow, I could watch these all day long. This one is adorable so thank you for doing a Halloween page for us. Speaking of future pages, I would love to see one of a Christmas landscape with snowmen and Christmas trees. Whimsical. The one you made with the snowmen for the class in Italy was precious! Wish we had a video of that one. Thanks for sharing your talent with us! It is such a joy to watch!!!

  13. Great layout, I’m not a huge Halloween fan, but this layout is so cute! I love that you used Pan Pastels, I have a set, but don’t use them often as I haven’t known too much about them. Would love to see you use them more. Thanks!

  14. Wow! This page really shows us what a true artist you are. . Your pages are always amazing, but this one just “takes the cake”, (or is that just an American Expression?) The brush tip, and demonstration about different shading tools, both are well received. I join everyone else in thanking you for the treat you leave in our e-mail box every few days.

  15. Your art journal pages are always AWESOME and this one follows the same rule! I LOVED all your hand-cutted pieces, especially the boots and the skirt, and loved your coloring too! Your quote is totally inspired! We don’t celebrate Halloween in Greece but it is a great art theme, isn’t it???! <3 <3 <3

  16. You are awesome, just saying!!! Love to watch your videos and wishing you were my neighbor, so you could teach me in person. Lol!

  17. Cute, cute, cute! I really enjoyed watching you make this journal page. You are very talented and I enjoy watching your videos. I learn a lot from you. Thank you for sharing.

  18. Love the page! It makes me want to sit down and do something in my art journal. If I don’t have the pan pastels, what can I use in their place that will work with the versa mark? Also the Big Brush Marker shown is brown and when I click on it, it takes me to one with that name but it is blue. I wanted to double check on the marker color. Thanks, I look forward the next page!

  19. Thankyou Vicky! once again a lovely art journal page, I am so happy to watch your pages explode with colour and imagination. I love the way you use a variety of products giving the viewer a taste of some amazing products available.
Every time after watching your latest art journal page I can not wait until the next one is shown.
    Greetings from Australia!

  20. Dear Vicky.
    I also don’t celebrate halloween,
however your work with such layout & details is awsome! Great!!
This time you encouraged me “again” to try out!
    Thank you!!

  21. I have been so patiently awaiting for an art journal layout, and despite my lack of enthusiasm for Halloween celebrations, your layout was totally inspiring and adorable.
I sometimes struggle with proportions in my work ups, challenged to fit different size elements together. The witch cat and broom are perfect!
